Tynwald faces Lisvane report

Improving the way the Manx government functions formed the bulk of yesterday's Tynwald agenda.

There were 11 recommendations up for debate, including limiting departmental positions to one member each and changing the way the Chief Minister is elected.

It followed a far-reaching review authorised by Lord Robert Lisvane.
Manx politicans were at the centre of a debate on what could be the biggest reform of Tynwald in recent history.

The long-awaited Lisvane report saw members discuss many functions of parliament - from the role of the Bishop, politicians' pay and even the way members of Tynwald are trained.

That aside, ministers faced their monthly questioning from fellow MHKs.

North Douglas member Ralph Peake, David Ashford wanted to know if there had been any movement advancing the Climate Change Mitigation Strategy.

His constituency colleague, David Ashford, was also set to ask four of the 15 questions tabled for oral answer.

They included queries for the health minister about improving orthodontic cover for young chidren.

There were four more questions for written answer - as well as a number of other items of business - but it was expected the Lisvane report would dominate proceedings.
