Island electricity from renewables just 7%

Just under seven per cent of the Island's electricity was generated by renewable sources last year.

The figure, revealed by Manx Utilities Chairman Dr Alex Alinson MHK in the house of Keys yesterday, includes electricity coming from the Energy from Waste Plant.

He was responding to a question from North Douglas MHK David Cretney.

Dr Allinson said the cost of renewable energy schemes precluded Manx Utilities from adopting them for now.
