Palmer success at Oliver's Mount

Castletown’s Chris Palmer (pictured) tasted success at the Cock o’ the North Road Races on Saturday.

He won the 125cc event from Ian Lougher by 2.316 seconds, with Alex Hutchinson on the Super Mono machine - returning to Oliver’s Mount after many years absence – in third.

Palmer also had some high place finishes during a busy afternoon of action on the 2.43-mile course.

He gained third place in the day’s second race, finishing behind TT favourite Guy Martin and Keith Pringle.

Ulsterman Dwyer Agnew had taken the honours from Mark Buckley and Dave Woolams in the opening race.

Nigel Connole and Jamie Winn took the opening sidecar event, finishing more than 15 seconds ahead of Greg Lambert/Gary Partridge with Dave Wallis/Phil Iremonger in third.

However, Connole and Winn had to settle for second spot in the second sidecar race, Conrad Harrison and Lee Patterson pipping them by just 0.808 of a second.

Lambert and Partridge completed the top three.

Martin took victory in the first leg of the National 600’s – just 0.166 of a second from another Island favourite, Ian Lougher.

Buckley was third, Mick Goodings fourth, Palmer gained fifth and Agnew sixth.
Goodings enjoyed success in the 400cc, finishing 16.503 seconds ahead of Dave Bell, with Alex Hutchinson third.

Martin completed a treble triumph with victory over Lougher in the Superbikes – Palmer was in sixth spot – before Lougher took his 100th race victory at Oliver’s Mount in the 250 class by 9.425 seconds from Phil Harvey with Palmer taking third place.

Sunday's race programme gets underway at 1pm with the first of eight races
