New courses at Albany Tennis Club

With this year’s Wimbledon championships only days away Albany Tennis Club is offering the perfect opportunity for beginners to learn the game, or for more experienced players to sharpen their skills.

Courses for adult beginners - and restart courses for those returning to the game - will begin tomorrow, Friday June 17.

Expert tuition will be given by experienced club coach Ian Watson and there are a range of corporate, individual and family club memberships available to cater for all requirements.

Albany Tennis Club also welcomes children and runs the Island’s largest ‘mini-tennis’ programme.

The game is designed for children aged five to 10 to develop good technique by using smaller courts, softer tennis balls and shorter racquets, which make it easier for tham to play.

The emphasis of the mini-tennis scheme is to have fun while learning new skills.

The club, which is in Ballaughton Meadows just off the New Castletown Road in Douglas, offers excellent facilities with three floodlit outdoor courts, an indoor court, a practice wall, and free on-site parking.

The purpose-built club house has changing rooms, showers, and a function room.

Free taster sessions are available children and adults - just contact club coach Ian Watson on 627720 or email ianwatsonpts@manx.net

The club is also hosting the PokerStars IOMLTA Senior Closed Championships, which concludes on Sunday.
