Douglas make it two from two

Douglas won on the road for the second week running to make a flying start to the season in South Lancashire/Cheshire Division One.

This week Hoylake were the victims with Douglas winning on the Wirral 16-13.

Guy Wood crossed for Douglas’ only try of the game with the remainder of their points coming from Bryn Snellgrove’s boot as he kicked three penalties and a conversion.

In the Cheshire (South) division, Ramsey beat Vagabonds 13-6 at Ballafletcher and put a slight dampener on their 50th anniversary celebrations.

Vagas did pick up a losing bonus point, but were so close to the win and will no doubt feel disappointed.

In a very tight first half, the only difference between the sides was a solitary Leigh Kennaugh penalty which meant Vagas turned around 3-0 ahead.

Ramsey took an early second half lead after Ali Trace ran in to make it 3-5.

The scoreline remained that way until eight minutes from the end when Kennaugh’s second penalty of the game put Vagas ahead at 6-5.

In stoppage time, however, Ramsey snatched the match.

Luke Robertson ran in a try to retake the lead 10-6 and a Scott Kneale penalty with the final kick of the game completed the scoring.
