Crennell clinches old firm success

Peel ended their old firm hoodoo to take the honours in a nine goal thriller on Saturday.

They secured a triumph over Rushen – a rare event in recent times – to maintain their Railway Cup qualification hopes.

After trailing 2-1 at the break, goals from Lee Gale, Kerron Christian, John Gale, Rob Cottier and Andrew Crennell sealed a 5-4 success for Rick Holden’s team.

Ciaran Brown, Michael Baker, Steve Riding and Aaron Hawley were on target for the southerners but the defeat ended their own faint qualification hopes.

The ‘Wolf man’ led the way again as Laxey stayed top of the Canada Life Premier League.

Mark Wolfenden hit four and was joined on the scoresheet by his strike partner Ashley Webster, Shaun Kelly and Jackson Brown as the Miners won 7-0 at Gymns.

Hat-tricks apiece from the deadly duo of Callum Morrissey and Ciaran McNulty fired the reigning champions St George’s to an easy victory at bottom club Marown.

Skipper Sean Quaye, Chris Bass and James McStay netted the others in a 9-0 romp.

A blistering start ensured the other title contenders, St Mary’s, maintained their winning run.

Goals from Brian Crellin (two), Tom Weir and Steven Priestnal sealed a 4-1 home win over Corinthians at the Bowl.

They replied through Chris Cannell.

A Nick Hurt penalty rescued a point for St John’s in a 2-2 home draw with Old Boys.

Old Boys led twice in an exciting contest at Mullen-e-Cloie through Callum Stewart and a Craig Stewart penalty.

Andy Glover equalised before being sent-off for conceding the visitors’ penalty but Hurt then earned a point with a spot-kick of his own.

Union Mills ended a miserable run with a 3-1 success at Castletown.

Matthew Cain, Kyle Uren and David Thomenny grabbed the goals with regular marksmen Mike Edge netting for the home side.
