Union joins DHSS transport row

The Isle of Man Trades Council has been asked to step in over the decision by the DHSS not to renew a transport contract for people with learning disabilities.

The Rail Maritime and Transport Workers Union has asked the Trades Council to raise the plight of the parents and families affected by the decision, after discussing the issue at a recent branch meeting.

The RMT says: 'If the department concerned gets away with what it is trying to do at the expense of people who need this service, what other vital services will they attack next?'

The Department of Health decided not to renew a contract with Protours to take people with learning disabilities to day care centres.

In the House of Keys, Minister Eddie Teare said the money saved could be used to benefit users in other ways.
