Tynwald committee launches review into Island’s ministerial system of government

Public invited to share views on effectiveness of governance model introduced in 1986

A Tynwald committee is calling for public views as it reviews the effectiveness of the Isle of Man’s ministerial system of government.

The Standing Committee on Constitutional and Legal Affairs and Justice is examining how well the system has worked since its introduction in 1986, when it replaced the previous board system of governance.

As part of its inquiry, the committee is inviting written submissions to help answer several key questions, including whether the original aims of the ministerial system have been achieved, whether the shift was seen as an improvement at the time, and whether the current system could be improved.

Submissions are open to all and must be received by noon on 25th April 2025. Responses can be sent by email to committees@tynwald.org.im, though hard copies will also be accepted.

The committee says it is pleased to be launching this call for evidence as it seeks to assess how well the system has served the Island over the past four decades.
