Minister outlines CAA's safety oversight role

The safety regime at Isle of Man Airport for visiting commercial aircraft has been under the spotlight in the House of Keys today.

Lib Van MHKs Kate Beecroft and Peter Karran tabled a raft of questions on safety issues, in the wake of last month's final report into the Cork air crash.

Six people died when a Manx2 flight crashed on a third attempt to land in fog on a flight from Belfast to Cork two years ago.

The report said Manx2 acted as ticket seller but had no relationship with the air operator nor any accountability for safety. 

Economic development minister John Shimmin said Manx authorities have no remit to conduct inspections on visiting aircraft.

But he said the Island's Civil Aviation Authority has an important oversight role:
