Manx Care invites patients and carers to share their experiences

Next two “In your Shoes” listening events to take place this month

Two more 'In Your Shoes' events are to be held this month by Manx Care.

The listening events are designed to help the healthcare service plan the future care it will provide for those living with certain conditions.

DEMENTIA

Firstly, carers are being invited to share their experiences and help shape the future of care for those living with dementia on the Isle of Man.

The meeting is set to take place on Wednesday 24 July at Hospice Isle of Man in Douglas.

Attendees will be able to meet clinicians, nurses and other health care staff to share their understandings and observations.

Experience and Engagement Lead Karen Maddox is encouraging people to come forward and speak openly about their own experiences.

She says: "For this second event, we are really keen to listen to more experiences and views of carers, whether they have had a positive experience or whether they feel there is room for improvement. This is another genuine opportunity for carers to share their stories and to influence the future of local care.

"Following on from our first event in March, we have developed a collaborative working group and action plan to improve the experience of carers and dementia patients. This next event is aimed at hearing more voices so we can include further feedback to extend our action plan and efforts to make things better."

To book your place on this session, contact MCALS by email: mcals@gov.im or telephone 642642 by Wednesday (17 July).

MENOPAUSE

Secondly, people are being invited to share their thoughts and help shape future standards of perimenopause, menopause, and post-menopause care.

The third in the series of ‘In Your Shoes’ meetings will be held on Tuesday 30 July.

Attendees will have the opportunity to meet Manx Care staff and tell them about their real-life experiences face to face.

Experience and Engagement Lead Karen Maddox is again encouraging people to come forward and speak openly.

She said: "For this event we are really keen to listen to experiences and views of those who have used Manx Care services over the last two years.

"This is another genuine opportunity for people to share their stories and to influence the future of local care.”

The event will last about two hours and will involve service users, carers, families and colleagues, discussing experiences individually and in groups.

It will be held at Keyll Darree at Noble’s Hospital between 5pm and 7pm.

To book your place on this session, contact MCALS by email: mcals@gov.im or telephone 642642 by Wednesday (17 July).
