Christmas trade 'up and down' say Douglas retailers

Final chance for late night shopping ahead of big day

This year's festive shopping period has been 'up and down' according to some retail businesses in the capital.

The season got underway towards the end of November with shops staying open later on Thursdays to accommodate the expected extra influx of people.

Additional parking is created along Douglas Promenade walkway.

Tonight (19 December) marks the last day of late-night shopping.

The last couple of weeks have been hampered by poor weather with the public told it wasn't safe to drive the weekend that Storm Darragh hit.

Manx Radio asked businesses on Strand Street how they were faring and why shoppers were choosing the high street over the internet:

Magazzino was this year's winner of the Best Dress Window Display competition - it donated the £150 prize to Manx Breast Cancer Support Group.
