Campaign to replace MiCards to start next week

System 'just needs an update' says minister

A government campaign will start next week to replace MiCards, which allow people to claim their benefits or pension at Post Office branches.

It's as all cards currently in use are set to expire at the end of the year.

Three-and-a-half-thousand people on the Island use the cards and will be advised by letter over the coming weeks about what they need to do.

Treasury Minister Dr Alex Allinson says the system just needs to be updated:

Government says: 'On receiving their letter, MiCard users must take the following to the branch of the Isle of Man Post Office where they usually collect their benefits/pension:

• The letter

• Photographic identification, e.g. passport, driving licence or current MiCard

• Proof of address, e.g. household bill, bank statement or tenancy agreement

• The photo ID consent form, if choosing the option to have a photo printed on the new MiCard

Following this, a new MiCard will be posted to a customer’s address within four working days. Once it has been received, the card must be activated at the post office.
