Move to formalise Central Registry
Comments are being sought from the public on plans to merge government records on charities, land and deeds into a new Central Registry.
A consultation has been launched by the Department of Economic Development, on a draft bill to formalise its structure, designed to streamline an array of functions.
The Central Registry has been in place since 2015 when areas dealt with by the General Registry - Land, Deeds, Probate, Civil Registries, the Charities Register and Public Records Office - were merged with the Companies Registry.
Registry Director John Wilkinson says the DED wants opinions on how the new, centralised record body should be structured, and the required legislative a mendments required to bring it into force.
