IOM Christian Aid representative LOUISE WHITELEGG explains THE TIME IS NOW movement which is gaining support on the Island. There will be a protest on Wednesday 26 June in London, and we will mirror the London event here on the Island - these are the details :-
The time is NOW to stand up, to speak out and help protect our planet for future generations to come.
We heard the youth voice at the student protest. This is YOUR opportunity to show your support, speak out for the planet, for your children’s future.
There is a march planned for the 26th of June in Douglas called the time is now. Please share this information with your friends, your groups, your work places
The Times:
From 11am:
Meet at the Promenade Methodist Church, Douglas. Bring your lunch and join us for banner making - then at 12noon we will listen to the speeches live streamed from the London march.
At 1pm:
Turning left from the Promenade Methodist Church, the marchers will walk along Loch Promenade, turn in to Marina Road, walk through Strand Street, Duke Street, turning right on Victoria Street, up Prospect Hill, arriving at our destination of Tynwald
At 1.40pm:
Short speeches made on the steps of Tynwald on topical issues
2pm SET YOUR ALARM!!!! The time is now – set off the alarm clock you’ll be bringing with you!
2.05pm Presentation of THE ASKS, followed by dispersal of march.
The Asks are:
- Keep fossil fuels in the ground
- Fossil fuel divestment – ethical investment
- The Fare free campaign - https://www.facebook.com/Fare-Free-Campaign-Isle-of-Man-627852321021035/ free public transport
A couple of other questions people are asking :
Why Wednesday? This march mirrors the London march which is during the normal working week to present asks to parliament
What is The Time is Now Movement – the march started in the UK with the UK Climate Coalition. There are over 100 organisations taking part. For more information please see https://www.theclimatecoalition.org/thetimeisnow
MUSIC ON PRAISE TODAY :
is by the harmony duo CAIM (Heather Innes and Jacynth Hamill) taken from their CD “God of the elements”
Parts of the Lindisfarne Liturgy
and
St Patrick’s Breastplate
