Vagas lift Plate

Vagabonds B are celebrating after picking up the first silverware of the rugby season.

They lifted the Dorchester Atlantic Marine Manx Plate on Saturday with a 19-14 victory over Douglas B.

Matt Dyson put Douglas in front with an early try before Vagas hit back with a Franzy Germishuys try, converted by Michael Oates.

After the break, Greg Whyte and Andy Pease both went over and another conversion from Oates put Vagas firmly in command.

Douglas refused to lie down and responded with two penalties from Bryn Snellgrove and one from Ryan Maddox but they could not prevent the favourites from claiming the silverware.

It was a good day for Ramsey in the Shimmin Wilson Manx Shield.

The reigning champions thrashed rivals Southern Nomads 41-0 to underline their credentials.

A hat-trick of tries from Tynan Pritchard, two from Pete Wilson, one apiece from Danny Turner and Aneurin Pritchard and three conversions from Shaun Wylie demolished Nomads on the day Ramsey Rugby Club celebrates its 25th anniversary.

And the B side made it a double celebration with another rout, this time a 46-0 success at Castletown.

Tries from skipper Phil Hardisty, Dan Shimmin – his first ever for the club - Chris King and Stu McConnell (two) helped the northerners to a fine win and to second in the table.

Western Vikings saw off the challenge of Emerging Nomads with a 20-7 away win.

Tries from Paul Gale, Richard Little, Dan O’Connor and Mike Sheely settled the match with a Ben Horan try and a Justin Meechan conversion the bright points for battling Nomads.

Vagabonds went down to a disappointing 16-21 home defeat against Sale in EuroManx South Lancashire/Cheshire Division One.

Vagas, who scored through a Sam Egan try and three Jonny Beckley penalties, led 13-0 at the break but were pegged back in the second period to end their recent winning run.
