Tour de France doubts for Cavendish

Doesn't have guaranteed selection and doesn't want it, says team boss

The boss of Mark Cavendish's team says there's no guarantee he will be selected for the Tour de France.

Bahrain-McLaren team principal Rod Ellingworth has said Cavendish, "doesn't have automatic selection for the Tour and doesn't want it."

The race has currently been pushed back by two months, giving a new start date of 29 August, although doubts remain among some in pro cycling that it will even be able to go ahead then.

The 35-year-old Manxman joined Bahrain-McLaren at the start of the current season following two years blighted by injury and illness, but has had little chance to prove himself so far with racing being on hold since mid-March because of the coronavirus pandemic.
