Tinker Cup ties played despite the murk

Peel and St John's, and Valkyres win

Despite the murky weather on Saturday around the Douglas area, both Tinker Cup ties were completed on the day.

Peel and St John's defeated Finch Hill by seven wickets.

Finch Hill batted first but only managed 90 runs from their 36 overs.

George Burrows scored 33, and Ben Bennett-Naish reached 25 before being caught by Kieran Cawte off the bowling of James Seed.

PSJ responded with some aggressive batting by Ollie Webster, who scored 60 not out, which included three sixes and eight fours.

Support from Peter Lewis brought victory to PSJ in the eleventh over.

Valkyres won their game against Castletown by eight wickets.

Castletown played their youngsters in this match and they all played well with skill and determination.

Castletown started off in sprightly fashion reaching around 60 in 14 overs.

Both Joseph Humphrey and Nathan Williams hit the ball with force and backed up Dan Laughlin (20 runs) and Jonathan Wells (49 runs).

However, the Valkyres skipper then brought on the experienced Abdul Khan (1 for 17 runs off 8 overs) and old timer Andy Coulson (5 overs 0 wickets for 11 runs).

Both bowled very economically, and the run rate was brought down significantly. Castletown ended their innings on 139 from their allocated 40 overs.

Valkyres replied slowly; the young Castletown bowlers caused the Valkyres batsmen more problems than their elder colleagues, but Santhosh Nouduri, Wasim Khan and Shahid Rafique achieved the total in confident manner in the 30th over.

Santhosh, the Valkyres’ captain, scored 47 before falling to a smart catch by Olly Wait and Shahid was 52 not out.
