Island pro beaten in four sets by Spain's Jaume Munar

Billy Harris has suffered defeat on his Wimbledon debut, losing out in four sets to Spain's Jaume Munar (4-6, 4-6, 6-3, 3-6) in the men's singles first round.

In a close-fought contest across the opening set it was Munar's superiority on serve which helped provide the difference between the two along with a break on Harris' serve to strike the first blow.

A similar pattern emerged in the second as Munar's increasing confidence and clinical points-scoring combined with a number of unforced errors from Harris saw the Spaniard take control at two sets up following a break in play of just over one hour in set two due to a spell of rain.

With work to do to get back in the contest, Harris managed his first break of serve in set three on his way to get back into the mix and claim his first set of his Wimbledon campaign.

Across the final set - following a strong start from Munar - Harris fought back once more from a number of match points late on but yet another strong showing on serve from Munar in the final game meant the Isle of Man competitor was ultimately unable to stop his opponent from progressing.

Despite the loss, Harris' Wimbledon campaign is not over - he will partner fellow British player Liam Broady in the men's doubles competition where they will face the USA pairing of Christopher Eubanks and Evan King in the first round tomorrow (3 July).
