St. John's Relegated

St. John's have been relegated to Division Two after just one season in the Sure Mobile Premier League following a 7-1 thrashing at St. Mary's.

However, the scoreline doesn't reflect the real battle they put in.

The sides were level at half-time when Steve Priestnal put St. Mary's in front early but Anthony Moore equalised for the struggler's.

St. Mary's scored again just after the interval but the floodgates really opened in the last 12 minutes when they netted a further five times.

Marc Priestnal and Stephen Glover were on target.....but the headlines went to Steven Priestnal who ended the game with a five goal haul.

He is now level with Gymns striker Ciaran McNulty in the chase for the Golden Boot. McNulty scored a hat-trick in his team's 5-7 defeat against Corinthians last night.

Priestnal has the chance to claim the prize when St. Mary's play their final league game away to Peel next Tuesday - a win or draw for the Douglas side will see them finish as runners-up behind Champions Rushen United.

Currently in second spot are Laxey who drew 2-2 with Rushen at Glen Road in a game which ended the season for both sides - Rushen finish with a points total of 63 from 24 matches (20 wins, 3 draws and just 1 defeat away to fierce local rivals Castletown on a rain lashed night at the start of the campaign).

Hospital Cup finalists Peel finished their sometimes troubled season in fourth place after a 2-2 draw with St. George's at Douglas Road. Ironically, despite all the fuss about losing points in the Terry Rigaux saga, Peel have the chance to win their second major piece of silverware on Sunday when they tackle Old Boys in the Hospital Cup Final at The Bowl - the westerners won the Railway Cup by beating Rushen on Boxing Day.
