St John's were unable to make it a home win at the Tynwald Hill International Football Tournament last night.
They went down 2-0 to favourites Occitania in the final at Mullen-e-Cloie.
The hosts lined up in a 4-5-1 formation, with the intention of stifling their opponent's attacking instincts, which had seen them score 13 goals in their two group games.
It worked for the bulk of the match, although it also meant St John's offered little going forward - striker Ste Glover often cutting a lonely figure up front.
Occitania eventually broke through in the 75th minute, when Guillaume Lafuente deflected a shot into the net with a deft flick.
They then made sure of victory with a second on 88 minutes, courtesy of Brice Martinez.
There was some consolation for the Johnners, as Nick Hurt was named Player of the Tournament.
The two finalists were also announced as joint winners of the tournament's fair play award.
