Castletown 7-68 Ramsey Reds
Douglas’ woes continued away at Bowdon where they lost 36-10 and dropped to the bottom of the Regional 2 North West standings. Luke Hyland bagged all Douglas’ points with a try, a conversion and a penalty. Eighth place Broughton Park visit Port-e-Chee next Saturday and their similar playing record to Douglas suggests a close game could be on the cards.
Counties 3 ADM Lancs/Cheshire
It was sadly a similar tale for Vagabonds as they went to high flying Garstang to face an unbeaten home side in Counties 3 ADM Lancs/Cheshire. Garstang emerged 41-8 winners and closed the gap to league leaders Hoylake in the process. Ant Pearson who stepped into the squad as a late replacement, went in for Vagas’ only try of the game, with Cam Findlay adding a penalty.
Ramsey’s Reds extended their lead in the Manx Shield with a 68-7 win away at Castletown. Ben Hardman and the points machine Brandon Atchison picked up wo tries apiece with adfditional scores from Jack Roberts, a penalty try, Adam Dunlop, Brayden Roche, Jake Richmond and Scott Kneale. Atchison also kicked eight conversions. Castletown’s score came via al Elliot Burnett try which he converted himself.
The other two scheduled shield fixtures were called off. Ramsey’s Blues and Nomads Greens were left short-handed due to a Colts game and the struggling Eastern Barbarians conceded to Western Vikings.
There’s a distinct lack of opportunity for Under 18 rugby in the Isle of Man however Southern Nomads Neil Collister and Ramsey’s Neil Harmer were undeterred and have managed to set up a fledgling side comprising mainly of players from their clubs, hence the senior game being postponed.
The Colts side took to the field against Liverpool College on Saturday and emerged 57-0 winners. Ramsey’s Nathan Robson and Nomads Tony Quinn ran in two tries each and there were also tries from Tom Collister, Raf Sinadjan, Ryan Wren, Joey Callow and Ivo Morrey. Sean Christian converted four and Nathan Robson two. The squad is aiming for e Cheshire Cup run in the new year.
