Manx Missile narrowly misses out on podium after strong race
Mark Cavendish narrowly missed out on an unprecedented 35th Tour de France stage win as he finished sixth on today's third stage.
The 'Manx Missile' was in contention throughout the largely flat route from Amorebieta to Bayonne and was in the mix into the final sprint on the final kilometre.
However he was pipped out front with Alpecin-Deceuninck's Jasper Philipsen winning the stage with Bahrain Victorious' Phil Bauhaus taking second.
Rounding out the podium spots was Lotto Dstny's Caleb Ewan who took third.
Tomorrow may also hold promise for Cavendish to make history, with stage four on Tuesday (4 July) on a largely flat 182km route from Dax to Nogaro.
