St George’s showed exactly why they are Manx football’s finest on Saturday.

The reigning champions thrashed leaders Laxey 6-1 at Glen Road to move to the summit of the Canada Life Premier League.

Callum Morrissey opened the scoring after a goalless first half before Sean Kelly headed an equaliser.

However, once Frank Jones restored the Geordies’ lead it was all one-way traffic.

Sam Caine and Jones again added further goals before Chris Bass junior and a Ciaran McNulty penalty completed the rout to stun the Miners and leapfrog them in the table.

Two goals in as many minutes just before half-time ensured the other big match ended all square.

Steve Riding fired Rushen into a 43rd minute lead only for Steve Priestnal to equalise before half-time to earn St Mary’s a 1-1 draw.

The points were also shared at Douglas Royal where St John’s held Peel in the western derby.

Nicky Sloane had given St John’s a first half lead but Daniel Bell denied them a memorable win.

Corinthians were given a fright by Ramsey before triumphing 3-2 at Ballafletcher.

After Niall Quayle gave Marown the lead, two own goals turned the match in the home side’s favour.

Union Mills are up to sixth after a 2-0 home success over Gymns.
