Priestnal double as Saints hit back

There was a thriller at the Bowl as the match of the day in the Canada Life Premier League ended all square on Saturday.

It meant a point apiece for St Mary’s and Peel as the Saints fought back from 3-1 down to hold the westerners.

Indeed, but for a missed Steven Priestnal penalty, St Mary’s could have celebrated a league double over Peel.

However, they had the marksman to thank as his double helped the hosts overturn the two goal deficit.

Daniel Bell and Ashley Webster had given Peel an early lead.

Priestnal pulled one back only for Marc Kelly to restore Peel’s two goal advantage.

However, with 20 minutes remaining, Priestnal cleverly finished his second and Harry Weatherill equalised 10 minutes from time.

Chris Bass hit a hat-trick as leaders St George’s ran out 7-0 home winners over Douglas Athletic, who finished with 10 men.

Jack McVeigh, Frank Jones, John Lund and Adam Long added the others as the champions extended their lead at the top.

Jack Saxon and Mike Williams were on target as third placed Rushen saw off St John’s 2-0 at Croit Lowey, while Old Boys won 4-2 at basement battlers Ayre.

Craig Murphy was the star of the show with all four goals.

Old Boys were 3-0 up at half-time before the Tangerines restored some pride.

Ramsey also gave Corinthians a scare before the fourth placed Whites fought back.

Josh Ridings (two), Danny Oram (two) and Blayne Slattery were the marksmen in a 5-2 home win, this after Ramsey led 2-1 at one stage early in the second half.

Struggling Union Mills were hammered 8-0 at home by an impressive Laxey side.

Jonny Shields, Jamie Callister, Mike Fernandez (two), Joe Hurley, Declan Cummins, Matthew Skillicorn and talented youngster Joe Walters were the scorers.
