Rugby: Nomads overcome Vikings in Manx Shield

Visitors win entertaining contest in the west of the Island

Southern Nomads took the honours at QEII with a blistering second half performance after Vikings led 21-20 at half time.

The first half was a tit-for-tat affair - Dick Seed sliced through to give Nomads an early lead; Matt Rockwell hit back for Vikings and Cam Findlay’s conversion gave them a slender lead. 

Gerard Landels restored the Nomads advantage before Tom Randall hit back for Vikings with Findlay again converting. 

Conor Stephens then put Nomads ahead before Findlay struck at the other end and converted his own try. 

A late first half score from Jack Sleight gave Nomads a try bonus point but left them trailing 21-20 at the break.

Stephens bagged his second after half time and then floodgates opened. 

Rob Craine, Owen Carvin, George Antill and Kyle Martin all raced in for Nomads and with four Mark Young conversions, Nomads were home and dry at 53-21. 

Vikings weren’t quite done though - Ed Knight bagged their fourth try and the bonus point, with Cam Findlay converting and Ciaran Stephens picked up their fifth to reduce the lead to 53-31. 

Nomads tries from Kyle Martin and Brian Skillicorn killed of any hopes of a comeback and while Vikings did have the final say with a Ciaran Kelly try, the game was already lost.
