Douglas beaten at Glossop
Douglas’ miserable start to the season continued with a 45-24 defeat away at fifth place Glossop. Simon Hoddinott put Douglas ahead early on and with Luke Hyland converting and adding a penalty they were 10-0 ahead. Glossop however weren’t in fifth place for no good reason and hit back hard. Kyle Martin and Charlie Henthorne both went in for Douglas tries which were converted by Hyland to keep Douglas in the hunt and within a sniff of a try bonus point, but it wasn’t to be. Douglas will finally get their first game on home turf next Saturday when Carlisle are scheduled to visit Port-e- Chee.
Vikings stung by Hornets
In the Ravenscroft Manx Bowl Vagabonds beat Western Vikings 22-19 in a cracking game at Ballafletcher. Ed Knight put Vikings ahead early on with Ollie Bowles converting. Tom Rowley intercepted for Vagas with Cam Findlay adding the extras to level the scores at 7-7. Danny Kane pushed Vagas’ noses ahead and as half time approached Hope Chirengwa danced over to leave Vagas 17-7 in front. Two second half tries from Vikings’ Jack Goodwin plus an Ollie Bowles conversion saw Vikings 19-17 ahead with five to play. It was left to Vagas’ wing Steve Gawne to claim the game. He motored down the right wing to score a try which gave his side the win and a try bonus point.
Ramsey B head the Bowl table after an under-strength Castletown conceded the other scheduled match.
