Both Vagabonds teams also lose out in their season openers
Report by Dave Christian:
A visit to the bottom club promised much but delivered little as Douglas lost away to Vale 42-7 and slipped to the bottom of Regional 2 North West in the process. Luca Simmons went over for Douglas’ only try of the match with Luke Hyland adding a conversion. To make matters worse, the Douglas team bus suffered a blow-out on the M6 as they headed for the plane home meaning they now have an unscheduled overnight stay. Douglas face Whitchurch next Saturday at Port-e-Chee.
Vagabonds open with defeat
Vagabonds opening game in Counties 4 ADM Lancs/Cheshire ended in a 22-19 defeat away at Ellesmere Port. Dan Bonwick crossed twice for Vagas with Ruan Erasmus picking up their third try, with Cam Findlay’s boot doing the rest. Vagas face Marple next week at Ballafletcher in their first home game of the campaign.
Vagabonds Ladies lose at Chester
Chester Devas beat Vagas 72-0 in Womens NC1 North West. Last season the results were much closer but Vagas have a much changed side this time around with six new players and four youngsters coming into the squad. They now have a week off before travelling to Didsbury for their next game on 7 October.
Ramsey win in friendly
There was a veritable try-fest at the Mooragh Park where Ramsey took on the Southern Vikings in a ten aside challenge. Joey Callow bagged three for Ramsey, Stevie Kneale and Brayden Roche two each and there were also scores from Ryan Wren, Eddie Plaatjies, Eddie Lord and Adam Dunlop. For the Southern Vikings Peter Cope ran in his first three senior tries, Sam Kennaugh and Rob Craine got two each and there were also scores from Mike Quayle and Conor McCaughan.
