Rugby: 'Ambitious' Ramsey targeting more progress

Northern side enjoyed positive campaign in 23/24

The captain of Ramsey Rugby Club says the team is 'ambitious' to build on a number of positive outcomes from the previous season.

During the 2023/24 campaign the northern side won their first ever Cheshire competition silverware beating fellow Island side Western Vikings 28-0 at Ballafletcher in the Cheshire Plate final in March.

That was also the first Cheshire competition final to ever be hosted on Manx shores.

What's more, a number of good performances in local tournaments saw them once again reach the Manx Cup final in 2024 only to suffer a 25-0 defeat at the hands of Douglas.

Ramsey's Matthew Meechan remains optimistic about what the squad can achieve this season and - if they were to enter the English RFU league system in future - they could be a competitive force to be reckoned with.

However, he says they realise there are challenges to that and they're focusing on a number of ideas closer to home to build their club in the short-term:
