Ramsey stun Vagabonds with last gasp winner

Andy Cleator’s touchline conversion with the very last kick of the game gave struggling Ramsey a hard earned 23-21 win over Vagabonds in South Lancashire/Cheshire Division Two.

Ramsey led early on through a Lance Wyllie try but Vagas countered through Ross McCulloch and took the lead when Leigh Kennaugh added the conversion.

Wyllie’s second try just before half-time gave Ramsey a 10-7 lead at the break.

Fintan Cummins extended Ramsey’s advantage with a penalty early in the second half but Vagas retook it with a try and conversion from Kennaugh.

Cummins’ boot got Ramsey back in front 16-14 with 10 minutes left.

In a breathtaking finale, Vagas went ahead 21-16 with a try from skipper Mark Howarth, converted by Kennaugh, but then, with seconds remaining, Cummins wriggled over for a Ramsey try to level the scores and set up Cleator for a touchline conversion which went in after bouncing off the crossbar.

Douglas made it 10 wins from 10 games with a solid 45-3 win over strugglers Buxton at Port-e-Chee.

Douglas led 21-3 at half-time, courtesy of a hat-trick from try machine Daryn Thompson and three conversions from Bryn Snellgrove.

Douglas picked up their try bonus point early in the second half when Thompson bagged his fourth try and there were also tries from Andy Evans, Niall Killey and Callum Carine, with Snellgrove adding another two conversions.
