Ramsey shine by the sea

It may have been their first home league match but you would never have guessed it as Ramsey dominated from start to finish to beat Helsby 40-5 at the Mooragh Park.

Youngster Fintan Cummins got proceedings underway in the very first minute when he seized on an attempted clearance and outpaced the defence to make it 5-0 and then 7-0 when he converted his own try.

Kev Ryder missed a penalty for Helsby shortly afterwards before Cummins extended Ramsey’s lead with a penalty of his own.

Centre Nick McCudden crossed for Ramsey on 25 minutes to make it 15-0 and Cummins again added the extras as Ramsey continued to build a lead.

Just before half-time, McCudden picked up his second of the game to put Ramsey 22-0 ahead at the break.

Tynan Prichard touched down for Ramsey early in the second half as they started where they left off. Brother Anuerin got in on the action to make it 32-0 before a further Cummins penalty put Ramsey virtually out of sight at 35-0.

Helsby made a brief late comeback when Richie Able crossed for a consolation try but Davide Mazzone quickly cancelled that out when he smashed home from close range to round off a fine day at the office for his team.
