Ramsey pick up bonus point but Garstang too strong

Vagas ladies in big win at Southport

Ramsey secured their first try bonus point of the season at a windy Mooragh Park but Garstang ran out 33-20 winners in Lancs/Cheshire 1 Shield.

David Minnikin set the visitors on their way with a try and conversion.

Ainsley Pye’s try with Minnikin’s conversion doubled the lead until Ramsey hit back with a Dan Bonwick try to leave the Garstang lead 14-5 at the break.

Garstang extended this to 19-5 early in the second half through Duncan Lambert but when Eddie Lord and Connor Casey hit back for Ramsey a resurgence seemed on the cards with the lead at 19-15.

Prop Edgar Nicholls however made the decisive score for Garstang and with Davies again converting the lead stretched to 26-15. Garstang killed it off with another seven pointer before Casey went in for his second of the day to get Ramsey’s try bonus point.

Vagabonds edged out at Old Bedians

Vagas promotion challenge took a dent when they lost 15-13 away at Old Bedians.

Hooker Matt Rockwell picked up a try for Vagas as did centre Phil Plaatjies, with Ryan de la Harpe adding a penalty.

They’ll have to do it all again at Ballafletcher next Saturday though as the face Bedians for the second week in a row. Vagas remain second in the Lancs/Cheshire 2 Premier standings but are now nine points behind leaders Port Sunlight.

Another five for Curphey as Vagas Ladies win big at Southport
