Plans to celebrate Joey Dunlop legacy at Classic TT

This year marks 25 years since legendary rider's TT hat-trick

A series of events will take place at this year's Classic TT celebrating the life and career of TT legend Joey Dunlop.

Event organisers have announced plans to pay homage to the rider's legacy which will include parade laps, pop-up exhibitions and exclusive cinema screenings at the August meeting.

It comes as 2025 marks 25 years since Dunlop's historic hat-trick of wins at the TT races in 2000 which took him up to what would be his 26th and final TT victory.

Officials believe it'll allow fans to 'relive the passion, drama and triumph of one of the sport's all-time greats' and 'honour the man whose name is synonymous with TT greatness.'

Running during the MGP/Classic TT meeting from 20-29 August will be a pop-up exhibition offering insight into the world of the rider himself.

This is expected to include original memorabilia from the Dunlop family collection such as Joey's race leathers, helmets and trophies.

A temporary cinema will also be in place showcasing major moments from his career like his TT triumphs including at TT 2000 as well as documentaries celebrating his life.

On the final day of the races on Friday, 29 August a special demonstration lap will be held on the Snaefell Mountain Course paying homage to Joey's victories at his final TT in 2000.

As part of it his nephew, Michael Dunlop - now the most successful TT rider of all-time with 29 victories - will ride a replica of Joey's 2000 factory Honda VTR SP1.

This year sees the return of the Classic TT for the first time since 2019 which will run alongside the Manx Grand Prix in an expanded 12-day programme from 17-29 August.
