Peel win 10-goal thriller

First ever top flight win for Athletic

Corinthians gave Peel a scare before the westerners won a 10-goal thriller in the Canada Life Premier League on Saturday.

Two goals each from Matthew Woods and Dominic McGreevey and one apiece from Josh Kelly and Kerron Christian earned them a 6-4 triumph at Ballafletcher.

Josh Riding, Steve Whitley, Tom Collister and Sean Doyle (penalty) were all on target for the hosts whose chance of a point slipped away when Ryan Burns was sent off.

Reigning champions St George’s put nine past Colby without reply.

Johnny Myers (two), Joey Morling (two), Sean Quaye, Chris Bass, Frank Jones, Sam Caine and Lund were among the scorers.

Darren Hudgeon continued his fine start to the season with new club St Mary’s.

He scored twice in the first half as the Saints defeated Laxey 2-1 at the Bowl.

The Miners replied through Matty Skillicorn.

Rushen’s good start to the campaign continued with a 5-1 home success over Ramsey.

A first half blitz saw Steve Riding (two), Matthew Lamb (two) and Jamie Johnston end the contest by half-time before the northerners netted a second half consolation.

Newly promoted Douglas Athletic secured their first ever top flight win with a 6-2 success at relegation favourites Ayre, for whom Dean Tate grabbed both.

Steve Cowin (two), Martin Cowin, Josh Green and Karl Gartland, scored for the Pinks, and there was also an own goal.

Union Mills and Old Boys shared four goals at Garey Mooar.

Luke Booth and Kyle Uren found the net for the home side with Craig Murphy and Ian Ramsay replying.
