Mixed results at start of rugby season

There was a disappointing start to the new campaign for Vagabonds as they went down 33-7 away at Hoylake, in South Lancs/Cheshire Division 1. A try from scrum half Leigh Kennaugh, plus a conversion from new stand off Tom Chamberlain, were the only rewards for Vagas' efforts as Hoylake's superior back line took control of the game

Two tries from Will Latta gave Douglas a solid start in their South Lancs/Cheshire Division 2 game against Liverpool Collegiate. Sam Randle added a third try for Douglas and skipper Bryn Snellgrove weighed in with a penalty and a conversion, but by then Collegiate were right back in it with scores of their own from Rizard Chadwick, Andy Cowan and Andy Coulson, plus a conversion from Chris Lloyd, to leave the game finely balanced 20-17 at half time.

The second half turned into the Bryn Snellgrove show as the Douglas skipper led his team home. He bagged a try, a conversion and two penalties to take Douglas to a 35-20 victory. Chris Lloyd kicked a penalty for Collegiate's only score of the second half.

Ramsey got their season in South Lancs/Cheshire Division 3 off to a flying start, with an 18-13 win against Ellesmere Port at Mooragh Park.

A try from Ramsey's Tynan Pritchard was the only difference between the teams as his side led 5-0 at half time. Ben Harding doubled their lead early in the second half before Ellesmere Port came back into it. A penalty from Paul Millington closed the gap to seven and when second row Martin Titho crashed over the visitors trailed by just two points at 10-8.

Fintan Cummins steadied the Ramsey ship with a penalty to make it 13-8 and with just two minutes to go, Ramsey's Matt Livesey rounded off the move of the match to make it 18-8. Port picked up a late consolation try through Niall Fitzpatrick with the last play of the game.
