Michael United 'working hard' following first-team exits

Caretaker manager believes they're not the only club with recruitment challenges

The current caretaker first-team manager at Michael United Football Club says they're 'working hard' to rebuild and get two teams out for the rest of the season.

In recent weeks the Kirk Michael-based side has seen the departure of its coach as well as '12 to 13' first-team players.

Michael Corlett says individuals from the combination side have stepped up to first-team level but there remains an urgent hunt for more to join so both squads can fulfill their league commitments.

He told Manx Radio his club isn't the only one having challenges with recruitment:

Last week (5 November) the club issued an online appeal for more senior competitors to sign up describing numbers as 'extremely low'.

Whilst Michael United was able to field a first team for the team's Ardern & Druggan Ltd. Division 2 match against Castletown on Saturday (9 November) the club's combination game had to be awarded as a home walkover to the southern side.

The first team currently sits sixth in the second tier of Manx football on 14 points whilst the combination team resides in tenth in Ardern & Druggan Ltd. Combination Two with nine points on the board after 10 matches.

Training takes place on the astroturf pitch at St John's Football Club on Tuesdays between 8.30pm and 10pm and on Wednesdays from 6pm until 7pm.
