Last minute defeat for Vagas

There was last minute heartbreak for Vagabonds, in EuroManx South Lancashire and Cheshire Division One. A last minute try and conversion for Aspull gave the visitors a narrow 17-13 victory at Glencrutchery Road. It was 10-10 at half-time, and with one minute left on the clock Vagas looked to have secured the points, thanks to a try from Rob Martin and two penalties and a conversion from Johnny Beckley. But it was not to be.
Douglas came back very strongly in the second half to win 36-13 at Mossley Hill, in South Lancashire and Cheshire Division Three. The visitors trailed their opponents 13-8 at the interval, but ran away with it after the break, scoring four tries to remain unbeaten at the top of the division. The five try scorers for Douglas were James Creasy (first half), Ryan Maddox, Geoff Miles, a penalty try, after winger Andy Hollis was illegally stopped when almost certain to score, and Gwyn Davies. Bryn Snellgrove got a first half penalty and converted all four of the second half tries.
Back on the Isle of Man last season's winners of the Shimmin Wilson Manx Shield finally got the defence of their title underway. Ramsey A started off the campaign in the way they will intend to continue, scoring 23 homes points against Vagabonds B, without reply. At Port-ee-Chee, Douglas B beat Western Vikings 62-3.
