
Manx club follows up success in London with more victories
Following a successful trip to London a week previous, Summit Grappling Academy has once again claimed a host of medals at its latest UK competition.
The club - formerly known as Gracie Barra Isle of Man - scooped 15 medals in total - six gold, five silver and four bronze - at the Empire Grappling: Northern Open in Manchester on Sunday, 9 March.
The majority of successes came from the academy's junior competitors whilst as a collective they also claimed a third place team trophy in the Gi division.
Among the highlights in the junior classes were two medals for Alan Greenhalgh - first taking gold in his Gi competition and a silver in his No-Gi category.
Debutant Finley Quirk impressed with bronze and silver in the Gi and No-Gi divisions respectively whilst another first-time competitor in Theodore Sloane took gold in Gi in his first ever tournament.
There was further Gi gold courtesy of Aden Dunkley-Nation with Nathan Ferns claiming top spot and gold in his category too.
Adding to the medal tally also were Iona Meban and Stanlagh Mayers who both secured bronze in their respective Gi events.
Elsewhere in the senior divisions, Summit Grappling Academy claimed medals through Rachel Kermeen and Sorelle Williams.
Kermeen powered to success winning her first match by decision before claiming gold and victory in her second via submission.
Similarly, Williams took a points victory in her opener before a gold medal-winning performance in the second with an Americana submission.
Separately, the team as a whole claimed fourth place overall for the event as well as the third place team accolade in the Gi classes.
