Jiu-jitsu: Academy aiming to take success to next level

Club inviting residents to give the sport a try this weekend

A Manx jiu-jitsu club says it remains ambitious to continue expanding and build on the successes it's had in recent years.

Summit Grappling Academy - formerly known as Gracie Barra - enjoyed a lucrative twelve months to January in which they claimed more than 130 medals across national and international competition at junior and senior level.

As preparations begin to get a team into this year's BJJ British Open next month, this weekend the club is inviting both juniors and adults to give the sport a try at a taster session to see if they would like to get involved.

It'll take place at the academy's base at Unit 4, Hills Meadow in Douglas from 10am this Sunday (28 April).

Head Coach Conrad Roberts and Hayley Curtis - who's enjoyed success for the club at world and European level - believe it's the community spirit at the academy which makes it both successful competitively but also a good social environment to be a part of:
