Hockey: Vikings A win to close gap at premier league summit

Three rearranged top flight matches took place last night (29 Oct)

Vikings A have at least temporarily closed the gap at the top of the mixed premier league as three top-flight hockey fixtures took place on Island last night (29 October).

The Douglas side managed a comprehensive 4-0 win over Valkyrs B with Will Bridson, Kim Carney, Alex Andrew and Tom Burrows all finding the net.

It sees Vikings A move level at the top on 12 points with Bacchas A but behind on goal difference and having played a game more.

Valkyrs B meanwhile remain bottom of the table and still without points on the board after seven outings.

Elsewhere, a stalemate played out as Castletown Celts and Vikings B shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw with Hannah Leece on target for the southerners and Alex Birch grabbing Vikings B's only goal of the contest.

Both remain fourth and sixth in the standings respectively.

The other contest at King Williams College saw Harlequins A grind out a narrow 1-0 win over a resilient Bacchas B with Euan Wylie converting the decisive goal of the evening.

'Quins' stay fifth but close the gap to Castletown Celts to one point whilst Bacchas B remain second-from-bottom on two points.

The fixtures were three of four mixed premier league matches postponed at the weekend due to the Isle of Man senior national teams being in action last Saturday and Sunday (26-27 October).

The other postponed match - Bacchas A vs Valkyrs A - is still to be played on a date and time to be confirmed.
