Report by Sam Spooner:

With a welcome break in the hockey season over the Christmas period of nearly 3 weeks for most and 4 weeks for some squads players, coaches and spectators are raring to go in the new year however with most clubs only having at most one training session before the games this weekend there may be some rustiness to contend with.

This may prove to be in Valkyrs favour when their A team meet Bacchas A in the Rossborough Men’s Premier League. Valkyrs have had a disappointing season so far this year, despite winning their opening game they couldn’t overcome Ramsey A and lost convincingly to Vikings A. It will be a hard task to overcome many people’s favourites for the title but if they are going to do it they need to take advantage this weekend. Elsewhere Ramsey A take on Vikings A with Vikings challenging for the title and Ramsey already 3 point behind you would expect Vikings to win here. There is a big relegation match between Vikings B and Valkyrs B with the winner then looking the favourite to survive. It is unlikely either of these two sides will take points off the other 4 teams in the league so the games between the two sides take on extra importance.

The Rossborough Women’s Premier League sees an interesting fixture between Valkyrs A and Bacchas A. Although Valkyrs are likely to be Vikings Closest challengers for the title Bacchas have exceeded early season expectations and sit in second place and will be a hard team to overcome and are known as a team that perform better as the season goes on. Elsewhere Castletown A and Ramsey A will look to pounce on any points dropped by Bacchas a to take 2nd place in their own right when they face each other. Finally Valkyrs B have the hardest task of any team this weekend when they attempt to keep Vikings A at bay.

Rossborough Men’s Division One sees two fixtures this week with one of the title favourites in the form of Castletown A taking on Harlequins A. Harlequins are much better than their position in the table shows and if they can begin performing as a team utilising their pace advantage and skill at the right times they will prove troublesome for any team in this league. Elsewhere Vikings C take on basement side Castletown B in what will be an early indicator for who will survive relegation.

The League leaders in Rossborough Women’s Division One, Harlequins welcome their nearest challengers Vikings B who sit one point behind. Much could change in this table with 3 teams challenging for the top spot right now and 3 teams in with a realistic chance of finishing the weekend in 2nd place.  Elsewhere Bacchas B will look to capitalise on any slip up by the top two teams when they take on Castletown B.

There are three matches in Rossborough Men’s Division Two with Castletown Colts welcoming Harlequins B, Bacchas taking part in an interclub derby between Bacchas Colts and Bacchas C and Ramsey B travel to Peel to take on Valkyrs C.

Two games take place between Castletown Colts and Ramsey whilst Bacchas C take on Castletown C  in Rossborough Women’s Division Two.
