Harrison wins BRC Challenge title

Ramsey's David Harrison has won the British Rally Championship Challenge series after claiming the title at the International Rally of Yorkshire at the weekend.

Going into the event all David needed to do was get the car round the 80 stage miles unscathed, something that proved a little more difficult than he expected.

He managed it with some effort, after he spent the whole event listening for every little clunk and untoward noise.

His fears were nearly realised when the car started losing fuel pressure halfway through stage two, a problem that was going to persist for the rest of the day to keep the nerves jangling.

But the relieved youngster finished the rally in third place, triggering the celebrations and champagne spraying.

“It was a nerve-wracking rally,” he said at the finish, “So I’m relieved and really pleased to get here and take the Championship.

David plans to be out in a different car for the forthcoming final round of the championship, the Suzuki Tempest Rally, where he is planning a trial run in a Suzuki Swift looking forward to his plans for next year.

The new champions will be also looking beyond the Tempest Rally to their prize drive, on the final round of both British and World Rally Championships Wales Rally GB at the start of December.

The BRC Challenge prize also includes free entries in the 2009 MSA British Rally Championship, making the total prize worth in the region of £10,000.
