Gymns move clear; Laxey go top

Have Gymns done it again?

Certainly, their bid to beat the drop gathered further momentum on Saturday with a thrilling 4-3 victory over Castletown.

Doubles from Nick Bowden and David Rees made it 10 points in four games for the Tromode side.

Mark Wolfenden, Tom Doherty and Tom Charmer replied for Town but Gymns secured three vital points.

That moved them further away from Ramsey Youth Centre who now face an uphill task to avoid relegation.

They battled hard but went down 3-0 at St John’s, courtesy of goals from Kevin Shimmell, Nicky Sloan and Steven Glover.

A 91st minute goal from Chris Brown fired Laxey to the top of the Canada Life Premier League.

The Miners’ fine form continued as they won 2-1 at Peel to move to the summit.

Damien Woods grabbed the other for Steve Falconer’s side with Simon Cowley on target for Peel before Brown struck.

Two goals, one a penalty, from the golden boot of Steve Priestnal and one from Tom Weir moved St Mary’s level on points with reigning champions St George’s.

That secured a 3-2 victory over Corinthians, for whom Max Kneale scored twice.

Ramsey and Rushen shared four goals at Ballacloan.

An Aaron Hawley penalty and Josh Kelly found the net for the southerners with regular marksman Jamie Moffitt one of the Ramsey scorers.
