Golf Champs quarter-final line-up decided

First-time qualifiers Gary Corlett and Tom Harris are through to the quarter-finals of the Grant Thornton Isle of Man Golf Championship.

And defending champion Jon Corke is out after being beaten by Island Games silver medallist Davy Jones in the last 16 at Mount Murray.

Corlett defeated Peter Glover 3&2 while Harris beat Saturday’s leading qualifier Kevin Moore 2&1.

There was disappointment for defending champion Corke beaten 1up by Davy Jones.

Two-times winner Paul Lowey had no such difficulties, overcoming Brian Duggan 5&4.

Darryl Callister was a 7&5 victor over Godfrey Kelly and Michael Curphey beat Robert Braide 2&1.

There were narrow defeats for two other first-time qualifiers with Andrew Challenor beating club-mate Donald Beggs 1up – a score repeated in favour of Chris Kneen over Marcus Avery.

The quarter-final line-up this evening is Tom Harris against Darryl Callister; Andrew Challenor v Gary Corlett; Paul Lowey v Chris Kneen and Michael Curphey v Davy Jones.

Play starts at 4.30pm with the matches teeing-off at ten minute intervals.

Roy Moore will be doing live inserts into the Back Page on Manx Radio from 6.30 this evening.
