Glorious weather for ICC champs openers

In glorious weather the ICC Europe Under-19 Division Two Championships started on the Island yesterday.

The ten nations are first split into two leagues.

The Isle of Man open their programme this morning, although the start of their match against Gibraltar has been delayed by the rain

There were significant results in the Island's division though.

At Tromode Italian captain Roshendra Abeywickrama scored the first century of the tournament – a magnificent 156 made from 154 balls.

His side went on to make 287 and then dismiss Germany for 116.

In the same league, Spain recovered from 27 for 5 to reach 182.

Gibraltar was soon in trouble, losing their first six wickets for 43 and were eventually bowled out for 97.

In Division B Denmark defeated Belgium by 160 runs and France beat Israel by 128 runs at Mullen-e-Cloie.

The two sides who won in the Isle of Man's league yesterday, Italy and Spain, face each other at King William’s College today.
