Geordies put in champion display

Blistering first half at the Bowl

St George’s showed exactly why they’re champions on Saturday.

They won 3-0 at second placed St Mary’s to move eight points clear at the top of the Canada Life Premier League.

After their first league defeat in 43 games last weekend, the Geordies bounced back with a blistering first half display.

Callum Morrisey, Cameron Kaye and a Jack McVeigh free-kick ensured the match was won by half-time at the Bowl.

It also inflicted a first defeat of the season on the Saints.

Rushen are up to third after a 4-0 home success over Douglas Athletic.

Tom Doherty, Jack Saxon (two) and Jamie Johnston were on target to boost the southerners’ hopes of qualifying for the Railway Cup.

Laxey’s own outside chance suffered a blow as Ramsey produced a thrilling comeback at Ballacloan.

The Miners were 3-1 up at the break, thanks to goals from Jonny Shields and Sean Kelly (two).

However, Ramsey showed their spirit with Chris Duggan and Jamie Moffatt (two) earning what could be a valuable point.

Jonny Callow made his 500th appearance for Laxey when he came on as a substitute late on.

Corinthians added to their scalp of St George’s seven days ago by seeing off newly promoted Colby 4-1.

Sean Doyle, Stephen Whitley, Josh Riding and Callum Campbell found the net for the in-form Whites.

Union Mills thrashed rock bottom Ayre to give themselves a chink of light with the bottom two.

Kyle Uren (three), Nathan Yates (two), Charlie Robinson, Rob Callow and Luke Booth were the goal-getters in the 8-0 success.
