Geordies hit six; Gymns out of drop zone

The St George’s juggernaut continued on Saturday as they thrashed St John’s 6-1 to stay two points clear of the Canada Life Premier League – with two games in hand.

A Callum Morrissey hat-trick, a Ciaran McNulty double and a Liam Cowin goal fired the reigning champions to a third win of the season over the westerners.

An own goal was all St John’s had to show for their efforts as they slipped to sixth in the table.

Laxey are doing all they can to remain in the hunt and are still second.

Mark Wolfenden (two) and Ashley Webster scored the goals in a 3-0 success at Castletown.

A Callum Stewart double ensured Old Boys consolidated third spot with a fine 2-1 win at Rushen.

Stewart hit one in each half with Mike Williams netting for the home side in between.

Doubles from the prolific Steven Priestnal and Brian Crellin and one from Steve Whitley moved St Mary’s up to fourth on the day they remembered former chairman Pat Gorman, who passed away earlier this week.

Their 5-1 win over Ramsey - whose goal was scored by Matthew Montgomery - means the northerners are now back in the drop zone.

That’s because Gymns saw off basement battlers Marown 2-0 to move out of the bottom two at Ramsey’s expense.

Two goals in the last eight minutes from Luke Fisher and Jay Corrin sealed the points and a result that all but consigns Marown to the drop.

Peel thrashed Corinthians 9-0 in a game switched to Ballafletcher.

Lee Gale was the star of the show with a four goal haul.

He opened the scoring in the fourth minute and completed it in injury time.

Andrew Quirk was not far behind him with a hat-trick, while Daniel Bell and Marc Kelly each chipped in with a goal apiece.
