Manx side move into main draw having initially been a reserve

The Isle of Man women's football team will be heading to the 2025 Island Games in Orkney.

In a dramatic turn of events, the squad have now been included in the main draw, it follows Guernsey withdrawing both its football squads last month from next year's event.

During the initial draw for the tournament in September, the Isle of Man was the final team to be drawn as the third reserve for the women's competition.

Now through to the main draw they will contest Group One along with hosts Orkney as well as Gozo and Frøya.

Team captain, Becky Corkish, says the players were delighted to hear they'd book a place in the event next summer:

Isle of Man Football Association President, Tony Mepham, says they're ecstatic to be able to get the national side to the event:

At the last games in Guernsey in 2023, the Isle of Man women's side claimed a bronze medal after beating Menorca in the 3rd/4th place play-off.

Prior to that football had featured at the games in Gotland in 2017 where the Isle of Man women's side won silver, beaten only by the hosts in the final.

In August this year the squad won the inaugural Cherry Godfrey Cup in Jersey in a competition which saw them face off against hosts Jersey as well as Guernsey and the Isle of Wight.
