CC Isle of Man marks return to competition on intense first stage

Corrin Leeming was the highest finisher for Cycling Club Isle of Man on a hectic first day of the Ras Tailteann in Ireland yesterday (17 May).

The Manx squad were involved in a pacey peloton on the opening of the 154.8km route from Nivan to Birr with multiple attacks at the front, including from CC Isle of Man's Jamie Fletcher and Mark Horsthuis.

A crash went through the bunch as it entered the first hotspot sprint of the day which saw CC Isle of Man's Michael Faid go down with teammate Marcus Christie also held up - both riders resumed the race afterwards to get back into the peloton.

Despite the team's efforts, they were unable to catch the leading group into the final climb at Wolf Trap, with Leeming the first of CC Isle of Man to eventually finish 29th in the general stage classification and sixth-place in the overall Under-23 standings.

The squad is back in action today for day two which will see them take on a 154.5km stage from Birr to Ennis.
