Corinthians seal final Railway Cup spot

Corinthians have qualified for the Railway Cup for the first time since 1980.

That’s after a 7-0 success over Union Mills in the Canada Life Premier League cemented their spot in the festive competition.

Danny Oram was the star of the show with four goals and was joined on the scoresheet by Connor Gorman, Kyle Campbell and substitute Stephen Whitley who rounded off a memorable afternoon for the club.

It ended Rushen’s faint hopes of qualifying.

The result of the day came at Station Fields – Peel’s temporary home – where St John’s saw off their fellow westerners to record a memorable 2-1 success.

First half goals from Stuart Morrison and Rhys Oates put St John’s in the ascendancy.

Peel’s cause was further disrupted when goalkeeper Kiril Velev was sent-off for striking Oates in the face after the break.

Ashley Webster reduced the deficit from the penalty spot with 18 minutes remaining but couldn’t prevent St John’s from claiming the points.

A 92^nd minute penalty from Stephen Priestnal secured a dramatic 2-1 victory for St Mary’s at battling Douglas Athletic.

It ensured the Saints consolidated second spot.

Priestnal had earlier levelled for St Mary’s midway through the first half after Darren Shields had given the hosts the lead.

Two sides who had chances to qualify for the Railway Cup shared the spoils at Glen Road.
