Athletics: David Mullarkey breaks men's 10,000m Manx Record

It comes just a week after women's record was smashed by Sarah Astin

USA-based Isle of Man athlete David Mullarkey has broken the Isle of Man men's 10,000m track record.

Representing University of Northern Arizona at the Stanford Invitational Meeting in California on Friday, 4 April he posted a time in his race of 27 minutes 51.80 seconds to finish third.

That time is more than 35 seconds faster than the previous Isle of Man men's record over that distance of 28 minutes 27.03 seconds set by Keith Gerrard back in 2011.

Once the result is ratified, it'll mean Mullarkey holds Isle of Man men's track records in the 1,500m; 1-Mile; 3,000m; 5,000m and 10,000m disciplines.

Furthermore, Mullarkey's performance took place only a week after the Isle of Man women's 10,000m record was shattered by Sarah Astin.

That also took place in California but at San Juan Capistrano in 'The Ten' race.
